Dr. Ronnalee N. Orteza, Philippine Science High School (PSHS)-Ilocos Region Campus director, is encouraging high school students to apply for scholarships with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) enabling them to become world-class “Filipino Scientists of tomorrow”.
Dr. Orteza made the statement during the Science and Technology Fora dubbed “Nasa Syensya ang Pagasa! Maging DOST Iskolar Ka!” which was participated by various students and representatives from Local Government Units in La Union on July 29, 2016 at the Jollibee Function Hall, City of San Fernando.
“We are the leading science high school in the Asia Pacific Region, preparing our scholars to become globally-competitive Filipino scientists equipped with 21st century skills and imbued with the core values of truth, excellence, and service to the nation,” she said.
Applicants should be a grade 6 elementary pupil from a duly recognized school by the Department of Education. Once screened, they will have to take a National Competitive Examination before being accepted into the program. For this year, the examination will be held on October 22, 2016.
Dr. Orteza also told that “Pisay” offers free tuition, monthly stipend and loan of available textbooks to scholar awardees. Also, a monthly living allowance determined by the scholarship committee and approved by the Board of Trustees shall be given to those who financially deserve the assistance.
“I hope we can convince you including your friends and relatives this school year's high school seniors to help build a technology-driven future for the country”, she further said.
