Laoag City distributes P12-M worth of agri-inputs

Laoag City—The city government here, by mayor Michael M. Keon, distributed  PHP12 million worth of agricultural inputs to farmers and fishermen in the city.

According to Keon, he said he considers the agricultural sector as the most important sector in the city considering that it “provides food on the table”.

This is the reason, he said he strongly supports the agricultural sector to ensure the constant food supply here in the city.

The mayor believes that food will be one of the main issues in the future and he wanted Laoag to be a self-sufficient and the people to buy local and not imported food products.

The mayor congratulated the city agriculture office headed by Engr. Sheila Opelac for their successful programs in helping the agriculture sector.

Opelac, for her part, said all rural barangays in the city received agri-inputs based on their requests with a total number of 1,500 combined farmers and fisher folk associations.

She added that the P12 million worth of agri-inputs come from the Dept. of Agriculture (DA), the city’s RA 7171 share and from the city government’s general fund.

Agri-inputs distributed included 172 bags of Canaan Biofertilizer, 628 bottles of Hi-Crop Organic Fertilizer, 600 Bottle Neem Tonic Organic Insecticides, 143 Bottle Carrageenan (Aqua Flavit), 30 bags Yellow Corn Seeds (NK8840), 20 bags Yellow Corn Seeds (Super 999), 410 bags Hybrid Rice Seeds, 4 Heads Goat Dispersal, 1,250 pcs Coconut Seedlings, 140 bags Complete Fertilizer, 108 bags Urea, 40 bags 0-0-50, 32 bags 21-0-0, 50 Bottle Flu Pro, 450 sachet Compete, 800 Sachet Virtako, 470 Sachet Steward, 784 packs Follar (17-8-17), 9Rolls Fishnet, 29 sets Longline and 5 heads RTL Chicken.
