Laoag City—With the
aim of “fostering a better coordination and communication among the Barangay
and Sangguniang Kabataan officials” in this city, the Sangguniang Panlungsod here approved
a measure requesting Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Ferdinand Alexander
“Sandro” A. Marcos, through the Dept. of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), to
allocate funds for the construction, repair, rehabilitation, and expansion of
the existing Liga ng Mga Barangay (LMB) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) building
situated at Brgy. 2 Sta. Joaquina, this city.

Panlungsod ex-officio member Michael Agustin said the construction of the LMB
and SK buildings are deemed essential to facilitate the efficient operations of
the federation units.
He said that the building will serve as a centralized hub for the
LMB and SK activities, meetings, and administrative functions, thereby
fostering better coordination and communication among barangay and SK
officials.
Agustin, who sponsored the measure, said the allocation of funds
for the construction of the said building will contribute to the enhancement of
community services and youth development programs in the locality
“Knowing that Congressman Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos
III has continuously demonstrated commitment and support toward the development
endeavors of the 1st District, Ilocos Norte, including projects that aim to
improve local infrastructure and governance”, Agustin said.
He further said that the existing LMB building will remain but it
needs repair and rehabilitation aside from the construction and expansion of a
bigger and a new one to accommodate the SK. However, he said that it will
depend on the decision of the DPWH what would best suit the project.
At present, the existing LMB building accommodates the offices of
the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the City Library.
