In an attempt to break the so-called “Solid North”, Ms. Robredo presented herself as an alternative candidate, whom Ilocanos may vote for in the upcoming May elections.
“It’s worth it to give it a try. Very realistic naman tayo kung ano ang expectation. Mas mahirap ‘yung hindi ka man lang sumubok na ipakilala ang sarili,” Ms. Robredo said when asked if she is not intimated in visiting Ilocos Norte which pledged for support over her rival, Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
But instead of wooing the Ilocano votes, Ms. Robredo clarified her stand on martial law, which to her opinion, was a mistake.
Without batting an eyelash, Ms. Robredo said the Marcoses should apologize about what happened in the past and recognize it.
“In this case, 30 years after, marami pa tayong i-settle kasi wala pang recognition. Marami pang human rights victims na hindi pa nabibigyan ng katarungan. Napakarami pang pera ng gobyerno na hindi pa sa atin nakakabalik,” Ms. Robredo said as she stressed, “If all these were settled before, matagal na sana tayong naka-move-on at hindi sana tayo bumabalik-balik sa dati.”
She however noted that to apologize or not is a personal thing referring to Senator Marcos’ stand that he sees nothing wrong done in the past, hence, there is no reason to apologize.
“Sana lang maging totoo sa lessons in history. Mahirap kung hindi natin natututunan yung lessons in the past,” she added.
