City of Batac--The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in this Batac and the Laoag City district jails have new wardens.
Jail Senior Inspector Cremencio Alones previously from Bantay Municipal Jail in Ilocos Sur was detailed as city jail warden at the Batac City District Jail. Erstwhile Batac jail warden J/Sr. Insp. Antonio Sapaden was transferred to the Investigation and Prosecution Division of the BJMP Regional Office.
Mr. Alones welcomed his new assignment as part of the BJMPs reshuffling program every two years.
The formal turnover was conducted on February 17, 2020 at the district jail witnessed by officials from the BJMP regional office.
Mr. Alones promised “to do his best as the new city jail warden of Batac and will study and adopt the present programs and activities by the outgoing jail warden”.
He commended Mr. Sapaden for making the Batac District Jail as one of the best jails in Region I.
He admitted that this will be a challenge for his part as compared from his past assignment as he only administered to 10 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in Bantay, Ilocos Sur compared to the more than a hundred PDLs at the Batac District Jail.
However, he promised to do his best with the full cooperation of the jail personnel and at the same time all the PDLs here.
It was learned that Mr. Sapaden served the Batac District Jail for four years. As he leaves, he has high hopes that electricity will soon be installed at the jail extension. He believes this will happen during the time of Mr. Alones so the PDLs can soon use the cells in the extension.
Batac Mayor Albert D. Chua welcomed Mr. Alones as the new city warden. Mr. Alones paid a courtesy call to the mayor along with the outgoing jail warden.
Mr. Chua hopes that the additional request of the BJMP regarding the second phase of the new jail building perimeter fence will be granted soon so that they can use the newly constructed city jail extension building.
Mr. Chua also vowed that the city government will always be there to support the programs and projects of the city jail.
In Laoag City, J/Sr. Insp. Herminigildo Rivera was promoted as BJMP provincial administrator. Replacing his is J/Sr. Insp. Rodel Cadpino, formerly the operations officer-in-charge of the BJMP Regional Office
At present, the Laoag jail houses 188 PDLs.
Mr. Cadpino hopes that the proposed relocation of the BJMP Laoag will push through soon because of decongestion in the Laoag jail.
