City of Batac—TO further motivate elementary and secondary students to study harder and excel, the city government here will soon give incentives or stipends for the top five deserving children of its permanent and casual employees.
Batac City councilor Bismark Quidang, who authored the ordinance, said the measure is one of the city’s plans, programs and priorities for the general welfare of the city government.
Mr. Quidang stressed that the city government continues its pursuit to give stipends and/or incentives to deserving school children and students who excel in their academics.
The Ilocos Timeslearned that city officials led by Batac Mayor Albert D. Chua have long wished for this project to give incentives and/or stipends to the top five deserving students who are children of city hall employees.
The awarding of incentives/stipends is scheduled at the end of every school year.
Mr. Quidang added that this will also help alleviate the burden of city hall employees in the school expenses of their children.
For the top five elementary and secondary deserving students, they will receive incentives/stipends in the amount of PHP5,000, PHP4,000, PHP3,000, PHP2,000 and PHP1,000, respectively.
The said deserving students should submit a certification from the principal or school head that they belong to the top five of the school, photocopy of the student report card, birth certificate and their parents’ city employee identification card.
The city government will allocate an annual fund of PHP500,000 for the ‘incentive fund’’ under the annual budget with a supplemental appropriation in case it will not be enough to meet the required amount.
In a random interview with the city hall employees who are parents, they expressed their gratitude to Mr. Chua for initiating this program as one way of motivating their children to study hard.
They added that this also helps them in terms of financial support to their children especially in buying their school needs.
