Free mammogram, clinical breast exam on women’s month

LAOAG CITYIn time for the International Womens Month celebration, a white and pink van dubbed as “MAMMOvan” is going around the province to provide free mammogram and clinical breast examination for all women at risk of breast cancer.

Parked at the back of the Provincial Capitol building on March 8, women aged 40 years old and above lined up to avail of this free service courtesy of the Breast Cancer Imperative (BRCAI) Inc., a non-government volunteer organization based in the province.

Also, a free clinical breast examination is being administered for women aged 20 and above.

Good for the month of March, organizers said Dr. Lestrino Baquiran and the Philippine Economic and Cultural Endowment (PEACE) funded this activity to promote breast cancer awareness and reduce late cancer detection.

In the Philippines, report shows that the incidence rate of breast cancer is also the highest in Asia and the 9th highest in the world.

Besides heredity, there are other risk factors linked to breast cancer like exposure to hormones and lifestyle.
